icarus Quartet joins forces with Peabody’s mixed vocal NEXT Ensemble to present Luigi Dallapiccola’s “Canti di prigionia (Songs of Imprisonment),” a three-movement work featuring texts by imprisoned writers, set to music as a protest to Mussolini’s race laws. Alongside this performance, the two ensembles will premiere a new work by Elijah Daniel Smith that reflects and connects with Dallapiccola’s original masterpiece, setting texts by Brian D. Fuller, currently incarcerated in Texas.

Join icarus Quartet for a new annual fundraising event in support of their successful iQ Tests program elevating the work of promising student composers! iQ will feature works by past iQ Test Scholars, invite short performances by the Scholars themselves, and announce the two Scholars chosen for the 2024-25 edition of iQ Tests. Enjoy an afternoon of music, food, drinks, and fun while raising funds for results – both of the winning composers and the ongoing prosperity of these fruitful collaborations!
Musical highlights of the event feature performances by icarus as well as composer, performer, and iQ Test Scholar, Che Buford. iQ is delighted to partner with Alma Cocina Latina for small bites and cocktails, Fresh Bakery for sweet treats, and Baltoz Bakery for Sicilian Pizza! All food and drink is included in the price of a ticket.
